An interview with the founders |
Grassroot BeginningsWhen Emmy Marshall couldn't find a consistent place for her then-teenage daughter, Kate Laughlin, to sell her jewelry, they took matters into their own hands. Rounding up a handful of local artists and setting up shop from their car trunks in a parking lot, the Durham Craft Market was born in 2006.
While Emmy and Kate are no longer a part of the DCM, our collective remains so grateful for their vision. For two decades now, the market they established has been a source of community and sustainability for scores of local artists and craftspeople.
