Wendy's background is in costume and fashion design as well as performing arts. She studied theater at UNC-Charlotte and performing arts at The Naropa Institute. While she did study some fiber design and hat making in college, she is primarily self-taught for both felt and millinery. She started Miss Fitt & Co. in 1999 as a general design and performance production company and began specializing in hand-felted hats in 2003. Every wooly wonder they produce is designed and made by hand in her studio in Durham, North Carolina. She also designs both one-of-a-kind items and custom pieces for clients throughout the year.
