About the Durham Craft Market

The Durham Craft Market is more than a pop up.

We are a self-directed collective of artists that celebrates artistic expression, craftsmanship, and community. For over 20 years, we’ve been a home for local artists to connect, grow, and share their work with Durham neighbors and visitors alike.

We're glad you're here!

Our History

Early every Saturday morning, Durham Central Park comes alive as the Durham Craft Market sets up alongside the Durham Farmers’ Market, creating a vibrant open-air marketplace where locals and visitors can shop handmade in the heart of Durham.
Founded in 2006, the DCM began as a small, grassroots effort led by Emmy Marshall, who saw the need for local artists to have a consistent place to showcase their work. Over the years, the DCM moved through several locations - the Measurement Incorporated parking lot, Foster Street, the walkway by the Liberty Arts Foundry - before finally settling in its current home in the lovely Sister Cities Grove by the Farmers' Market Pavilion.
What started with a handful of makers more than 20 years ago has grown into a juried, artist-run collective of over 50 local artists across diverse disciplines, from woodworking and  jewelry to fine art and functional ceramics. All of DCM's members share a commitment to craftsmanship, creativity, and community, and the market has always been entirely self-governed by its members, who guide its events and operations. Today, the DCM is known for its vibrant atmosphere, exceptional handmade work, and the chance for neighbors and visitors to connect with Durham's best artists.
For our makers and visitors alike, the Durham Craft Market has become a  beloved Bull City tradition.
