Katie Gonzalez, the founder and owner of Petal to the Press, developed a love of gardening a few years ago, but she grew up surrounded by amazing gardeners in her family. Her dad cultivated rows and beautiful rows of Zinnias and Yarrow each year and they always had dried yarrow bundles throughout their house growing up.
When her dad passed away unexpectedly in 2019, Katie wanted a way to hold onto the blooms he had grown that year and discovered drying in silica gel, and created frames with the preserved blooms for each of her family members. In November of 2022, sbe began Petal to the Press began as a way to extend her garden and to share her love of preserving flowers with others.
Katie loves experimenting with each different flower, leaf and plant to see how they dry or press and then turning them into art. She carefully chooses the plants to add to her garden, selecting the best options for pressing to create framed art, bookmarks, cards and other gift options. In addition to pressing flowers that she grows, she also does bouquet preservations for all events such as weddings, memorials, and birthdays.
