John Schwartz

John Schwartz is a local Durham artist who blends his creativity and artistic skills in his wood and watercolor offerings.  He has long enjoyed making practical things in wood, initially for his own use, and more recently to sell through his business Wood Be Retired. His standard wood products include unique photograph frames, coasters and cutting boards.  He primarily uses five hardwoods which he blends and mixes to highlight and contrast their colors and grains.  He also takes custom orders for fine art frames and small casual furniture items.  As John neared retirement, he took up a long dormant desire to learn watercolor.  He is an active member of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina and has displayed paintings in WSNC Central Region shows, 2018 Hillsborough Gallery of Art annual juried show and the 2018 WSNC Annual Juried Show.  His original paintings, giclée prints and greeting cards are available through Wood Be Retired.
